This summer, Gibsonville Public Library is inviting children, teens, and families to discover books, make new friends, and enjoy hands-on activities during Summer Reading 2026: Unearth a Story. The free program runs June 22 through August 1 and features dinosaur-themed fun, reading challenges, movies, crafts, and special events for all ages.
Daily Activities All Summer Long
Programs are held Monday through Friday from 12:00–1:00 p.m. Lunch is provided, or families are welcome to bring their own. Most activities are designed for specific age groups, while several days each week are open to everyone. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Weekly Schedule
Monday (Ages 6–12): Living Like a Dino
School-age children will learn about dinosaurs each week while creating habitats and exploring prehistoric science through hands-on activities.
Tuesday (All Ages): Book Talk & Activities
Each Tuesday features a different dinosaur-themed craft or activity. Past activities include dinosaur prints, clay fossils, prehistoric chalk art, comic strip creations, pet rock painting, LEGO challenges, and more.
Wednesday (All Ages): Dino Lunch & Learn
Take a break from the summer heat with a relaxed lunch and educational dinosaur documentaries. Each week explores a different topic, including dinosaurs, prehistoric plants, fossils, and other fascinating discoveries.
Thursday (Ages 13–18): Make a Dino Movie
Middle and high school students can spend the summer writing, filming, and editing a short movie that will premiere during the Summer Wrap-Up Party.
Friday (All Ages): Dino Trivia
Put your dinosaur knowledge to the test during weekly trivia games while helping the library reach its community summer reading goals and unlock special rewards.
Programs for Younger Children
Children ages 0–5 and their caregivers can enjoy Summer Storytime every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Storytime includes songs, dinosaur stories, crafts, and playtime designed especially for preschoolers.
Special Family Events
Families won't want to miss these featured summer events:
- Saturday, July 18: Dinosaur Tech Petting Zoo (Drop in from 10 a.m.–3 p.m.)
- Saturday, August 1: Summer Wrap-Up Party and Teen Film Premiere
Read, Explore & Win
The fun continues outside the library with a summer-long Dino Scavenger Hunt around town. Search for dinosaur footprints, complete the scavenger hunt form, and turn it in to earn a prize.
Children can also track the minutes they read using ReadSquared or a paper reading log. As the community reaches reading milestones, the library plans to celebrate with rewards like a water fight, field day, ice cream party, and pizza party.
