If you ask my twins where they want to go on any given day, there's a good chance they'll start chanting, "Bounce Place! Bounce Place!" before we've even backed out of the driveway.
That's what they call Kiddy Town in Burlington, and over the past year it has become one of our family's favorite indoor playgrounds to spend a morning or afternoon together.
Located in Burlington, North Carolina, Kiddy Town offers a fun indoor play space for toddlers, preschoolers, and young children. Whether it's a rainy day, a scorching summer afternoon, or we simply need a place to burn off some energy, it's one of our go-to spots for indoor family fun in Alamance County.
What started as an occasional outing has become a home away from home for our family. My twins know exactly where they're going when we pull into the parking lot, and they're usually racing toward the play area before I've finished checking them in. Honestly, finding a place that both of my children genuinely enjoy isn't always easy. Finding one where they can each play in their own way is even harder. Kiddy Town has become that place for us.
From the moment you walk through the doors, it's easy to see why children love it. The colorful indoor play space is filled with opportunities for movement, imagination, and discovery. My twins make a beeline for different activities every time we visit. Some days it's the trampoline. Other days it's the ball pits, slides, climbing structures, interactive wall games, or imaginative play areas.
One of the things I appreciate most is that there truly is something for every type of child. Whether your child loves active play, pretend play, sensory experiences, or simply exploring at their own pace, they'll find plenty to keep them engaged.
As the parent of an autistic child, that flexibility means a lot.
Many families know that finding welcoming spaces where neurodivergent children can comfortably play isn't always easy. My son has always felt at ease at Kiddy Town. The variety of activities allows him to engage with the environment in ways that work best for him. Whether he's bouncing, climbing, exploring, or becoming completely fascinated by one of the projected games, he can play on his own terms while still being part of the fun around him.
That sense of belonging is something I don't take for granted.
What makes Kiddy Town even more special is the heart behind the business.
Owner Andrea, a former teacher, and her sister-in-law opened Kiddy Town because they saw a need in our community. Families often had to drive 30 or 40 minutes to find indoor play options, especially during extreme weather. They wanted to create a fun, safe, and welcoming place where children could play, learn, use their imaginations, make friends, and create memories close to home.
But their vision extended beyond the children.
Andrea shared that they also wanted to create a place where parents and caregivers could connect with one another. After seeing countless social media posts from moms looking for playgroups, friendships, and opportunities to build community, they hoped Kiddy Town could become a gathering place where those relationships could develop naturally.
As a local mom, I understand exactly what she means.
I've seen those same posts in community Facebook groups. Parenting can sometimes feel isolating, especially during the preschool years. One of the things I love most about Kiddy Town is that it creates opportunities for families to connect beyond online conversations.
While the children are busy playing, parents often find themselves sharing recommendations, swapping stories, discussing local events, and building friendships. Some of the best conversations happen while watching our kids laugh together from the sidelines.
In many ways, Kiddy Town has become just as much a community space as it is an indoor playground.
The welcoming atmosphere is also reflected in the staff. They are consistently kind, patient, and attentive. Over time, they've gotten to know many of the families who visit regularly, creating an environment that feels personal and inviting. It's clear that they genuinely care about the children and caregivers who walk through their doors.
The facility itself is thoughtfully designed with families in mind. Parents can easily keep an eye on their children from nearly anywhere in the building thanks to the open layout. There are comfortable seating areas throughout the space, making it easy to relax, chat with friends, or even catch up on a little work while the kids play.
Families with babies and toddlers will also appreciate the dedicated area designed specifically for younger children and non-walkers. It provides a safe place for little ones to explore while older children enjoy the larger play structures.
And when everyone works up an appetite, there's no need to leave. Kiddy Town's café offers snacks, popcorn, coffee drinks, and ice cream, making it easy to turn a quick visit into a full afternoon of family fun.
We've also enjoyed many of Kiddy Town's special events throughout the year. From holiday celebrations and themed parties to seasonal activities like Easter egg hunts and Noon Year's Eve festivities, there's always something new happening that gives families another reason to visit.
For our family, Kiddy Town has become more than just an indoor playground.
It's a place where my children can laugh, learn, move, explore, and simply be themselves. It's a place where I've connected with other parents. It's a place where families can gather regardless of the weather outside.
Most importantly, it's exactly what Andrea hoped it would become—a welcoming community space where children make memories and parents find connection.
So if you ever hear two excited children yelling "Bounce Place! Bounce Place!" in a Burlington parking lot, there's a pretty good chance they're my twins getting ready for another adventure at one of their favorite places in town.
